B737 AFDS Assembly Instructions

Materials:

- 3D printed parts

- 3pos toggle switch

- PCB (or replacement print)

- 3x 6x6x8mm tactile switches

- 12 LEDs (6 amber, 6 red)

- DM13A LED driver (DIP24)

- Connectors and wire

- Various screws

Step 1


Print and acquire all the required parts to assemble the AFDS unit.

If you are printing the panels yourself, consider using Bambu Studio to print the panels. Select the front plate color as gray, with white text and buttons as black with transparent text. PLA will suffice for this unit.

Step 2


Solder the three tactile switches, 12 LEDs, LED controller and connectors/wires to the PCB. If you don't own the PCB, mount the listed parts to the replacement panel with hot glue and wire them as you need.

Step 3


Attach the 3pos toggle switch to the front plate. Align the back plate to the PCBs LEDs/mounting holes and press it as far as it goes without damaging the electronics. Make sure the front plate is in the correct orientation.


Step 4


Make sure the panel you are installing the AFDS unit to, has the correct size hole for the unit and its backlighting. The desired panel thickness is 4mm but can vary with slight modifications to the AFDS. Place the unit to the correct spot and screw four M3 bolts through the entire unit. Don't over tighten anything.


Insert the three button to their correct slots and fit the back plate to the correct place on your panel.

Step 5


Install the front plate from the other side of your main panel. Align all the buttons with the front plate and install the final two ~16mm M3 bolts from the back side of the AFDS. These screws will hold the unit in place and should not be over tightened.


Lastly you need to connect the 3pin connector from the toggle switch to the PCB and the 16pin connector to Arduino.

TIP: The PCB has extra LED controller and MUX pins for additional devices of your choice.
